Rain, Rat Terriers, and Prep for upcoming competitions…unedited…

Good evening, everyone.

It’s blown up a storm here. Thunder is crashing across the heavens, dark clouds are looming, and the wind is fierce. I am inside, typing this of course, and playing nursemaid to three Rat Terriers.

One, Jake, the oldest of the trio, is having a nervous breakdown under my table. Chunk, the middle child is whimpering and crying like a big baby. Toots, the youngest, is wild and carefree. I don’t think she’d care if a tornado came through and tore the roof off my house.

I would mind it, so hopefully it doesn’t happen.

As to what I have written today, it’s not been a day for writing. Instead, I pulled out Holes and edited it again. I’ve sent it off to a dear friend for further editing. It is one piece for my submission into an upcoming competition. Furthermore, I have submitted another piece, Momma’s Prayers, for consideration for a publishing opportunity.

At the beginning of the year, I set out to edit my work and submit it into various competitions. Writing is a strange bedfellow. Somedays, I think “hmm, I’m not half-bad at it.” Then on other days, it’s all I can do to look at what I have written.

If I’ve learned anything during these five years of writing, it’s this: Writing is about risks. Take a chance, follow your heart, and don’t get discouraged. Good things come in time, and no one is a ‘over-night success.’

I am proud of the stories I have submitted, and will submit, and it’s a great feeling to know that maybe my words will be a light in someone’s dark world. After all, helping others is one of the reasons we’re here.

Take care and be safe out there.

Freeman
