Clown World…conclusion of Chapter 2…unedited…

Instead of rushing out the next morning, we visited each cabin and scrounged for supplies. Most were empty, but a few had things we needed. Ted and Emily both wanted to stay for a bit, since we had shelter from the elements, and no one had heard any moaning during their shift. So, we stayed there for nigh on a week.
The following week, we continued our journey. Ted and Emily had patched up their differences, and even poked fun of one another every now and then. As we drew near the town, Ted and I dropped to one knee and pulled out our binoculars. It appeared quiet; a bit too quiet for my taste but what else did we expect?
The world had ended. I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach as I motioned for Ted to take us into town.
“It’s just nerves,” I told myself. “We’ll be in and out in no time.”
Unbeknown to any of us, a pair of beady eyes watched us from another hill that surrounded the town, and a hand gave the signal to follow us down.
