Rhianna’s Chalice…new writing, unedited…

“Wow. The end of the world doesn’t concern you but throw some worthless money into the equation and suddenly you’re willing to fight for a lost cause.”

“Yep. I’ll live like a king until the consuming fire falls and the Dwarves are turned to cannibals.”

Hekla shook her head in disgust. “I thought I knew you better than that, Jayce Wellspring.”

“It appears you are mistaken.”

The next morning, Jayce loaded his loot into Leroy’s saddlebags. Hekla walked out to where Jayce and Leroy stood.

“Taber said you could meet us here at noon to finalize our plans. That would give you time to get your loot situated or whatever.”

“Well, that’s mighty generous of you and your friends. Tell ‘em thank you.”

“I understand you’re upset, Jayce. Maybe I should have been upfront with you about Rhianna’s Chalice and our role in trying to stop it.”

“Yeah. You should have been.”

“Can’t we go back to the way things were before…”

“No. Believe it or not, Hekla, I was once a guy who gave multiple chances to people. I learned many hard lessons until I realized that takers have no boundaries.”

“Jayce…”

“You did what you wanted, Hekla. I got it. You made your choice. There’s no reason to say anything else about it.”

“Rhianna’s Chalice is serious business, Jayce.”

“And? What do you want from me?”

“I want you to help us stop it. Is that too much to ask? The world is on the verge of an apocalyptic event, and you don’t give a crap. Think of someone else other than yourself.”

“I’ve been paid. That secures my help, but I don’t have to pretend to believe in this prophecy or even care that the world will end. Don’t worry Hekla. I’ll do my job.”

I am a good ole country boy residing in North Mississippi. I love to read, fish, hunt, hike and go to garage sales. Flea markets are a passion of mine. I read anything, but some of my favorites are: Dean Koontz, Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, T.S. Eliot, Shakespeare, and I possess a fondness for the writings of William Faulkner and Mark Twain. If I am forced to choose, I prefer baseball to football. I enjoy Alabama football (Roll Tide)! My baseball teams include: The Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox. I am divorced, the father of two daughters and live by myself with Chunk and Roscoe (my dogs).
