Today, I went to visit a friend who has cancer in his bones (among other issues). As I drove to his house, I asked God to give him comfort. My friend has asked me to not pray for healing, so I must honor his wish. Arriving at his house, I prepared myself for the worst. I knocked on the door and waited, to my surprise he answered the door and burst into laughter upon seeing me.
“Hey, Larry! We are getting ready for lunch! Come in!”
To say I was shocked is an understatement. My friend, regardless of the pain, has found joy in the midst of his storm. I must confess, my hope is rekindled when I watch him rise above his pain. My hope is that I find a way to smile when it’s my turn to suffer.
I am glad to know my friend’s life is in the hands of a just God. I hope I can learn from his fine example
