“What am I going to do?”
I walk out to the fence and watch this rescue horse named Buddy. He saunters up to the fence and nudges me. Reaching over the top plank, my fingers softly rub his face. He backs up and moves off in search of fresh grass.
“Me and this horse make two broken things. I suppose this will be my life from now on.”
“It won’t always be like this.”
I was so engrossed with Buddy that I never heard my dad walk up behind me. I force a smile and turn back to the horses.
“Yeah dad, I know.”
“Do you? Life is a series of events that are brought together to make a stronger version of you. This is not the end of the road son, it just feels like it is.”
“Then why can’t I make her love me? Why won’t she stay and try to help me figure this out?”
“I don’t know son.”
Gazing out across the green pasture, I watch as the sun slowly sinks into the horizon. There seems to be a bad moon rising.
