I have written about politics, the Jussie Smollett case, and other headline topics this morning. I am tired of all of the negativity. There must be something good going on in the world today that is worthy of my writing talent to speak of. Therefore, I have decided that today I will write about me.
I am a 46 year old native son of Mississippi. Born and raised in the country, my upbringing was strict and loving. My parents raised my brother and I to love our family, country, God and most of all, ourselves. I grew up in the woods. My brother and I spent hours upon hours discovering the beauty of nature. It was the best of times. My father and mother instilled in us a work ethic that is second to none. We labored together and we created a life that is worth living.
My teen years were filled with work, dating, school and more work. I had my own car, my own money, and I thought I knew what I wanted out of life. At some point, I started to lift weights. This competition within myself kept me in good physical shape. It was empty. Aimless, I wandered from one project to the other in search of fulfillment. It was as pointless as a pencil with no lead.
I attempted college in my early twenties. I didn’t stick it out, and soon I was on to some other fruitless endeavor. At the ripe age of 26 I decided that what I needed was to get married. It worked for a while. Then it didn’t.
My military career started after only a couple of years of marriage. I joined at 28. I spent the next decade fighting the wars that my country was embroiled in. My marriage fell apart from a lack of attention. My career dissolved due to epilepsy. My health fell apart for the same reason. I was lost once again.
Aimless, with no destination in mind, I drifted. Anger was my companion. Finally, life conspired to bring me home to Mississippi. It was the best thing that could happen. I didn’t realize it at first. Amid all of the turmoil, I met a lady who would change my life forever. She has been an absolute Godsend to me. I rediscovered my love of writing. Rachel has supported me in every thing that I have attempted since I have moved home. That type of loyalty is hard to find. When you do find it, you must keep it close so it won’t leave.
I was born in Petal, Mississippi. I have lived in Poplarville, Ft. Hood, Ft. Carson, and Germany. Places that I have visited are: Ireland, Scotland, France, Austria, Romania, Poland, Greece, Luxembourg, Italy and so many more. I am well traveled, and while I enjoy the feel of the open road, I like being at home the most. I enjoy good food, and meeting good people. My life has resulted in scars, but they pale in comparison to the good that has happened in my life. There are plenty of things that I could gripe about but what would be the point? I am alive and have a new opportunity to make the most of today.
My likes are varied. I love to read, hunt, fish, sit in coffee shops, and watch people. I enjoy baseball games. I love college football (Roll Tide)! My professional teams are the Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots. I also enjoy hockey (the Colorado Avalanche, and Boston Bruins). I like to write and enjoy going to writers conferences.
Do I believe in God? Absolutely. I am proud to say that I am a Christian.
My political beliefs tend to be conservative. I like the government to be small and fiscally responsible. I am a Constitutionalist, meaning I believe in the Constitution and how it was written. It is the foundation of our government. Therefore, it should be protected at all cost.
My dislikes are as varied as my likes. I dislike racism, people who are shallow, those who are only open to one viewpoint, the New York Yankees, and whoever beats my favorite teams. I dislike mayo, sour cream, yogurt, and salad dressings. I also dislike liars, frauds, and the easily offended.
I prefer dogs over cats, steak over chicken, bacon over sausage, and laughter over tears. I love to laugh, and will talk with anyone on any subject.
I hope that you guys get an image of who I am due to this small blog about me. You guys take care and I will chat with you all soon.
