Gun violence in America…..is it as bad as the media makes it out to be?

I am sitting in the library, compiling research on violent gun statistics. Gun crime actually peaked during the 1990’s under the Clinton Administration. This morning, I figured I would put my degree to work and see what the statistics say. The FBI operates the Uniform Crime Report and the National Incident Based Reporting System (UCR and NIBRS, respectively).

According to the FBI and their reporting systems violent crime as a whole has gone down. From 2014-2016 murder actually went up, however, in 2017 the murder rate went down. The charts will not load, so I will post the link to the article at the end of this blog.

According to the FBI, the top ten cities which led in gun violence are: 1. St. Louis, 2. Baltimore, 3. Detroit, 4. New Orleans, 5. Kansas City, 6. Cleveland, 7. Memphis, 8. Newark, 9. Chicago, 10. Cincinnati. It is important to remember that gun crime statistics are judged based off of the density of the population in said cities. Another issue with statistics is that many organizations lump crimes where a weapon was brandished and suicides into gun violence. Suicide is not a crime, however, if a weapon was used, they count it to bump up the numbers.

Now, I would never accuse an organization of lying to promote an agenda, however, if the shoe fits-lace that puppy up and wear it. Former First Lady Hillary Clinton tweeted out numerous erroneous “facts” about gun violence after the Parkland school shooting. Then there is the organization Everytown for Gun Safety, which is supported by gun control advocate Michael Bloomberg. They constantly lie concerning gun statistics. MSNBC, CNN and other various “news” organizations seem to revel in their total lack of transparency when it comes to reporting accurate gun statistics.

It goes without saying that one death via a weapon platform is one too many. However, a weapon system is just a tool. A tool that is used to defend your property, family and yourself. I hope I never have to use one to defend myself, but I am prepared in case the situation arises. For all of the mis-reporting (outright lying) concerning gun statistics it isn’t just the media who are making it up as they go along. There are a dedicated portion of Congress people and Senators who constantly run their mouth about statistics that they know nothing about.

Please don’t take my word for any of this. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions. Don’t just buy what the media is selling you wholesale about gun violence. I don’t trust the media to give me the skinny on the ingredients in my food, much less to tell me the truth about anything else. Given the lack of thinking that permeates our society, it is important to use solid resources when you conduct research (fact checking sites, and Wikipedia are not reliable sources).

The battle to keep the 2nd Amendment rages on. Only time will tell if we are able to keep it or if the politicians will abolish it in favor of just a few more votes. Y’all take care and I will catch you later!

Freeman out.

P.S. I apologize for the layout of my resources. For some reason, it will not cooperate with me this morning. However, the links are where I took my information from. Have a great day!
